The Heretic's Daughter
A Novel
 by Kathleen Kent
 Paperback, Oct 2009,
368 pages.

Orientation

I absolutely love this novel, and this book will always hold a special place in my heart.
Evaluation

Kathleen Kent's novel, from the perspective of young Sarah Carrier, was moving and informative. The Salem witch trials, and that time in history, were obviously well researched by Kent and written so that the reader can see and feel what the characters lived through.

Interpretative

The story happened quite a long time ago, when people were easily suspicious of everything and easily intimidated. It happened to Sarah carrier and her family and some unlucky people who were blamed by others for something they didn’t do.

Evaluation summation

Sarah and her family lived in the city of Andover, New England. She was only about ten years old when she realized that people living around their house were not really welcoming her family. Things got worse when her mother was arrested and sent to jail because of something she didn’t commit. She was accused of practicing black magic just because some women said so. They pretended to suffer from some kind of disease and pointed out that it was Martha Carrier’s doing. Following her mother, Richard, Sarah’s oldest brother was also sent to jail. Later on, even Sarah and her brothers Andrew and Tom were also put behind bars. It hurt Sarah when her mother asked her to admit that her mother was indeed practicing black magic. Her mother then was sentenced to death and Sarah and her brothers were released. So many years later, Sarah finally found out why her mother admitted being guilty of practicing black magic. Read the book and you’ll find a touching story of how much a mother loved her family so dearly.

Why is It Important to Choose the Accredited School?

Most of teenagers need to go to school and there are a lot ofschools over there. Nowadays, schools grow to offer plenty of choice; private and state ones. However it is a hard choice since there are many factors which need to be considered before making the selection. Some will be influenced by friends; because some friend got to certain school than we go to there too. Some prefer to choose certain school because ofthe closer distance. In fact, the primary decisive matter for selecting school is whether the school has been accredited or not.

Why is important to choose an accredited school? Well, accredited schools have an edge over the unaccredited schools. This label of Accredited School has an impact unemployment opportunities. As result, if there are two or morestudents with similar qualifications, the student who comes from the accredited school will have an edge over the other candidate. Student from an accredited school has more open door than student with an accredited one.

Many students select certain school depending more on short term factors like friend influence and short distance from home. It is not bad since commuting actually needs much cost. Choosing school which is closer to home will save time, energy and money. However if that school is not accredited, the time and money spent along studying seems to be waste in the long term because it could become a limiting factor in gaining future opportunities.

Accredited school is not the only factor which will drive student’s success. Personality and characterization are very important too. However a student with good personality who comes from an accredited school is better than the others.
